When you look at me tell me what do you see

Do you see the man that I am or that the man you wish me to be

That thug in the street that you fear for no reason or

That threat to your life just because my existence

Keeps you in the mind of the things done in the past

That won’t go away because of YOUR conscience

Do you see the man in your life the father of your child

The man that makes your day and makes your heart smile

Or the one that knocked you up and then left you abandoned

The one that hurt you so bad yet the one that didn’t

I’m just the same gender but not his representative

I’m my own person an individual in case you didn’t know

I’m the one that had your back whenever you felt low

Not the one that hit you and left you bruised in the dark

Scared to see the light no I wasn’t a part of that

I’m the one that dried your tears when he left you alone

and had the kids hiding in the closet until you came home

I’m the one that went to work and handled the business

And you chose to disrespect me and treat me like the rest

All I wanted was you and you just couldn’t see it

Always more nothing less

like Meth and Mary You were all I needed

Yes I have my flaws no I’m not the best

I’m still a work in progress God’s not finished with me yet

I’m your best friend worst enemy today it’s time to choose
